ATTENTION BOROUGH RESIDENTS!!!
The NJ State Police have patrolled rural areas for the last 87 years.
In fact, the law that created the agency cited rural patrols as
their primary task. Facing a
budget crunch, Governor Corzine proposed that the 89 rural
municipalities that are served by the State Police pay a portion of that
cost. Urban areas like Camden, Irvington, and Newark are patrolled but will not be charged
under the new plan. The
Borough of Milford residents will pay $53,487 an additional 4 ½ cents
per $100 assessed value to cover this fee in 2009 alone.
The fee could increase in future years!
The 2008 State Budget has already
cut municipal aid. The
Borough of Milford was hit with a 14% reduction.
Governor Corzine believes that such cuts will encourage
consolidations and shared services among small municipalities.
It is important that our elected
officials are serving our needs.
Voting is an important part of this process, but not the only
one. You can email, call,
and write to express your opinion.
The Mayor
and Council can not do this alone –
We need your support.
Attached are sample letters to the Governor and State Legislators
opposing State Police fees for rural communities and addressed for
elected and non-elected officials for your use.
The Mayor and Council appreciate
your support in this matter.
